myQ

Will there be an update from SimpleCommands for myQ? My account will no longer “link”. Hopefully so! 😀

  • It still tells me when I request to close the door, that the door is already closed.

  • Dedra Davis, I used the post that Charlie Welf had put to troubleshoot my issue.  It turns out I could see it was a login issue that was causing the garage not to be known.  If you do this, and look at the logs, it may be able to tell you what it happening.
See Charlie's comments a page or 2 up, here is a snippet:

for those of you that a struggling to get the right value for line 28 here is a way to figure out the right value.

    just before line 28, add this line. console.log(result.devices);

    looks like this:

Then hit the save and deploy button.   then do a test, no different than described above.  After the test go back to the Code tab.

On the ribbon for this page you will see "Cloudwatch logs". Click on that.

you will see a screen like this:

    Click on the first entry

you will then see a screen like this:

Click on the second arrow and it will open up the results with a list of all your devices,  it will look something like this:

in the list there will be a href: entry for each device in you myq network.  the first device is device 0, in my case its named garage(See red arrow).  keep scrolling down and counting href: entries until you find the door your trying to control and that will be the number you put on line 28.

Now don't forget when you put the right number in line 28 to delete the console.log line you added earlier.

    Hope this helps

  • Brad, I did what Charlie said. Below are my results. It didn't have anything written in there that matched what he had.

  • Right, I am saying look at all of the logs and see if you can find your issue, don’t look specifically for what he was looking for which was just trying to determine the garage door number. There are many logs there that may help you understand why it is not working for you

  • I'm just adding my voice to this thread.  I've opened multiple tickets.  No response.  Same issue as others, get the message it was added successfully, but it doesn't show up and says I have no items.

Tried both on the iOS app and the web.  Same results.

  • I was able to create the Alex skill and got it to Open or check status  but the skill does nothing when I ask it to close.  Any ideas?

My Skill Name is big door .  Here is the output from testing

  • Mine now says it was added successfully, but in the items list, MyQ still says “Add” instead of “Manage”?

  • Tim, I’m having the same problem and can’t figure out what the issue is. I’ve done everything everyone has said. They all have been very helpful, but no one can help me.

  • Dedra, If you are still stuck try this option. It was really easy to follow and allows for 2 garage doors. And if assigning 0 for left and 1 for right doesn't work try swapping the 0 and 1.

  • Mary - Is this code working for you?  I tried it today.   It appears to check the status ok but when I ask it to open or close a door I get this I don't understand message.  Any ideas?

alexa ask my garage what's up

The left door is open, and the right door is closed.

alexa ask my garage to close left door

I didn't understand that. You can say open or close the left or right door.

  • Tim-there is another thread with 83 comments that is where the link to RJohn's version is found. Others also had some issues and solutions for multiple doors. I only have a single door so can only points you toward those smart folks. Sorry.

  • So I have one door and using nthat personal alexa skill worked perfectly until just the other day. It still will close fine but refuses to do anything when given the open command. Anyone experiencing this? I see a number of you with multiple doors having problems still and possibly someone with closing the door but how about single door and opening when they had the skill working just fine. Nothing has changed that I am aware of, at least on my end for sure.

  • The Skill code was updated this morning.   Blow away your existing one and redeploy this version.  Worked first time with two doors.    https://github.com/rjcohn/alexa-pymyq

  • so this is going to become another repair every couple weeks kind of thing where we are always playing catchup? Man I beginning to hate MyQ.

  • Following these steps (which are completely different than the first skill it seems). I am at

    • Click Interaction Model and then JSON Editor on the left. Paste the contents of interaction_model.json here, replacing the Hello World contents.

What am I replacing Hello World with?

  • In the download zip there is a file called interaction_model.json

Open that file in a text editor (i.e. notepad) and copy the entire contents to the clipboard.

Return to the skill editor under json editor and delete everything there, then replace (paste) with the contents of the clipboard.

  • For iPhone users.  There are Shortcuts you can install, so they are Siri Supported and Watch supported.

On the linked page below, you just need the Garage Setup, Open Garage & Close garage.

Be sure you scroll down to select Allow untrusted shortcuts when adding each shortcut (this also needs to be done in Settings under shortcuts first).

You can also name the Shortcuts to whatever you want.  Mine is "Open/Close The Pod Bay Doors HAL".

  • I must have missed the direction to download the file. I'll go look for it. Another quick question is in reading the description it references an echo device. Will this code work with any device alexa is on or does it need to be in their echo family? The one I have been using from early in this thread worked via any alexa enabled device. I only use this for the geo location trigger and even though I have the echo car device I dont care for it (heck cant even remember the name of it).

  • Figured out the error in my command so now everything seems to process correctly except the door doesn't actually open or close. The code works and says its opening but nothing is happening. Like its running without being connected to the actual myQ or something.

    Any Ideas?

  • Aircomba, I’ve tried everything I could. My door will open but not close. People have tried to help but everything I’ve tried didn’t work.

  • danbg but you get it to open? I should try "close" since I havent yet but close I already have working from previous skill andthrough MyQ app itself. I just want open and you got it to work? Can you link me to the exact directions you followed?

  • It was working beautifully for me, and now Alexa responds "the door is undefined", whether I try to open it or close it... Anyone has a suggestion why this is happening, and how to fix it?

    1
  • N3rdy....I'm not entirely sure, but when I left my house this morning, the MyQ servers were down and I could not voice control my garage nor use the MyQ app....It would not allow me to login. It might be related to that. I just tried logging into MyQ about 5 minutes ago, and I can access my account again.

  • Like N3rdy, the Alexa routines return 'the door is undefined'. I can use the MyQ app. SC now allows the MyQ to be added, but running any routine returns either "The Device is Currently offline" or "Something went wrong. Please try again."

Siri Shortcuts seem to execute, but nothing happens and no error is returned. In SmartThings, when I add my MyQ password it says the password is incorrect.

Wondering if the MyQ api has changed yet again?

  • Same as Blessing Dragon, Siri executes but the door does nothing with no negative response, Alexa returns with “door undefined”

  • Data Dan, I gave up. I couldn't get is to work. My door would open but not close. I've tried everything.

  • Sooo... I guess MyQ changed something again. My IFTTT applets are not working quite right (missing the trigger half the time) since last night. I also use the MyQ lite in smartthings, which is now failing as well, not recognizing my login info. Multiple people reported the problem with the smartthings MyQ  smartapp to brbeaird (the Github smartthings code magic master) who apparently is working on it and trying to fix it. I opened an issue on the MyQ-Alexa Github page, hoping someone can fix it...

  • N3rdy, I absolutely concur. I believe MyQ/Chamberlain has changed something again. (I suspect API, but who knows. I do believe they do it on purpose, though I don't even think they are selling the 'premium' connection stuff they used to (at least in relation to Alexa.)

Can you post what you had (when it worked) of how you used IFTTT to OPEN the door? And, please post back if you hear something about a fix for SmartThings.

Thanks to all who contribute to this thread.

Yup here we go again. Don't even get a week anymore of functionality. I get "Garage Door is Undefined" now when trying to run the routine I had setup using Alexa Skills and the json code provided earlier in this thread. It's been almost 2 decades since I took my computer science and coding classes so dont think I'll be any help in a fix.

That is two fixes/work arounds gone to the way side, and Simple Commands is still a no go. Sad. Hoping someone bright finds another and is avble to share on this thread.

    Thanks.

  • I'm having the same issue as everyone else. And I agree, MyQ/Chamberlain has probably changed their API again.  That's not really the way things normally should work.  When you change an API, you can't break things.  You can add new functionality, you can even change existing functionality, but you certainly shouldn't break existing functionality.  It seems like either they're trying to tick people off or they're incompetent.
