Cannot create MyQ connection

I am not able to create a connection to MyQ.  I get unknown credentials every time.  Have absolutely confirmed my credentials.  Have tried both on the app and the web interface from PC.  Am I doing something wrong?

  • Thank you very much Mary Higginbotham! The GitHub instructions worked perfectly in setting up an Alexa Skill with options to open/close multiple garage doors. All within AWS and Alexa Development Console. All for free, independent of SC, and just 30 minutes time.

I created a schedule to open a gate via an Alexa Routine=>Add Action=>Custom=>Enter text: ask My garage door to open

Now my gate opens at a specified time via the Alexa App.

  • Will this method allow hands free geofencing to open/close the garage door when you come home or leave? I believe that feature is with SC, but not Alexa, correct?

  • The Alexa App has options when setting up an Alexa Routine, there is an option to geofence by setting "When this happens" to Location Arrive and Location Leave. Then Alexa can perform the custom action to open/close the garage door.

  • Thanks, everyone. It worked for me as well. A little tricky at first to find everything, but it worked (the second time). I skipped the testing on the second try and it worked).  Looks like the only way this triggers in Alexa is to add the custom voice command, "Ask garage door (or whatever invocation name you chose) to open (or close)."

  • Thanks Mary I was able to get it to work, the 1st time didn't work but I figured it out, so I started from scratch & on the 2nd try I figured out it was due to my computer unzipping a file so I took the zipped file out of the trash & uploaded it & the test went through without a hitch. Then I setup Alexa with the custom command so when I say Alexa, Open Garage Door, it takes it as Alexa, Ask My Garage to open Door & it works perfect & I don't have to wait for Simple Commands to fix their issues anymore. Thank you so much for finding that fix Mary.

  • whenever I say Alexa, Ask My Garage to open Door, it announces must have missed something along the way

  • Don, I think you're almost there. It could be the command phrasing, Alexa, ask my garage door to open. The order of the words has to be exact.

  • so any ideas what is wrong? cause the "test" portion passed, not sure what i missed here.

  • Don & Cory, I was having similar problems, I started over with the AWS part & when you upload the Zip File make sure it doesn't get. Unzipped, I even tried to Rezip it but I had to restore the original Zip file & upload that to AWS.

  • So i downloaded the Code from Github, which is a ZIP file. once unzipped the contents like the "lambda-upload.zip" is still zipped, (initially i just downloaded it solo and i got an error.) and the code uploads into the dialog box and says its successful. I have done all the steps methodically, and clearly what i have typed / said to Alexa based on the command dialog mentioned has not worked yet... idk what to try now... so close.

  • I got mine fixed, I went back to the skill and the invocation name had changed to just "garage"  Changed it back to "my garage"  saved model and built it again..YAY now for geofencing

  • Something has changed.

When I add an Item, MyQ, it accepts the ID and Password, and the pop-up states "Connection Added Successfully, Click on connections list to see new items".

But here's the problem, I don't see the connections list or any list with the MyQ.

  • Thank you Thank you very much Mary Higginbotham! That GitHub with the instructions was very helpful. I can now open and close the door through Alexa again. The status of the door is in question though but I think that is Myq related.

  • Glad for the link mary h! I am always scared to update the myq app because I often have to reset the scene/routine for the alexa connection. I believe I started having issues after a recent myq update- but not totally sure?

I think I will not update the myq from now on since I can’t use any of the new features anyway.

Either way it’s great to have Alexa again after the github info. I do wish the best for SimpleCommands hopefully they get past the hurdle soon.👍

  • Still can't create a connection to MyQ. It just asks for login info and refreshes the screen with nothing there. When developers said they had a fix going to production on "Mon/Tues at the latest" (on July 16th) which Mon/Tues were they talking about?

  • Steve M not only that, but you can enter invalid credentials with the same outcome. I'm about to give up hope.

  • I sent another email asking if we can expect a solution soon, and unlike the prompt reply to my first email I haven't heard back from SC.

  • I got the alexa/aws setup working all except for the 'open' command. I've tried every combo of settings and wording I can think of.
'alexa ask my garage door to close' yields 'the door is already closed'
'alexa ask my garage door to open' yields 'I didn't understand that. You can say open or close the door.'
What the heck. Any ideas? I've messed with it for hours now. Frustrating!

  • So what I did was create a routine for when I say Close Garage Door it takes it as ask my garage to open door, I have had it say it was already closed before & I needed to press the button on the door sensor to reset it & open the garage from the button with the original opener to reset it.

  • I was able to have custom skill created, i can get status by saying "what's up" or "is right opened" but any variation i have tried to get door to open doesn't work "ask my garage to open right door" , open the right door, open right, right open...

No matter what I say (or type in test on dev site) I get back "I didn't understand that. You can say open or close the left or right door."

    Any advice?

  • I just did as Dan said and used the wall switch to open/close the door to reset it. For the first time, 'ask my garage to open door' worked - yay!
BUT - then no close command would work (not understood by alexa) and I had to use the wall switch again. Close was fine yesterday.
So something is buggy with alexa or the uploaded code. Has to be.

  • You might have to do it a few times till it syncs up, I had to do it a few time, pressing the sensor button a few times if you are not synced up or there might be a bug it the setup you did for the Alexa Skill, I had to do it a few times to get it to work right.

  • Tried some of the suggestions and now the mystery deepens, so status still works, i can now say open the left door and that works, but open right, or close either door gives same error message "I didn't understand that. You can say open or close the left or right door."

  • Kalin Clements and Steve P - Just set this Skill up this morning and getting same behavior.  I have two doors It knows the status of the doors so it's communicating with my Q.  I am typing all the commands to make sure there is no speech getting misunderstood.  Like you I did get it to open one of the doors a couple of times but you try again with exact same command and get "I didn't understand that. You can say open or close the left or right door"  Seems like we are are close but no cigar.  Let's share any progress here please.

  • Tim I also posted update on github advising of the problem. Dev over there said its a problem with new pymyq he used. He is going to test over the weekend and either upgrade pymyq or downgrade to previous version. You can follow the open issue on github for progress.

  • He updated the code and everything works great now!!

  • Can confirm! I updated code this morning as well and its working as designed.

Only issue I am still having is using open \ close both only works primary (left) door but that's a function I never use, just tested for the sake of completion.

  • Ok when you say updated the code - can you be more clear on what steps had to be taken on the user end of anything for the whole Mary link AWS portion or something else? Thanks and great to hear of progress on this front

  • If you use the current code and instructions posted here it will work.   Let me know if any questions.

  • I'm not sure how this subject got highjacked by Alexa command issues, but the original subject is

"I am not able to create a connection to MyQ.  I get unknown credentials every time.  Have absolutely confirmed my credentials."

This is still a problem, this has nothing to do with Alexa commands.
